Home About Us Av-Comm Pty Ltd Company History

Incorporated in 1981, AV-COMM P/L was initially founded to design and manufacture specialised items for the Australasian aviation market. In 1982 the company produced a low fuel warning system for the Bell "Jetranger" series of single turbine light helicopters, acquiring Australian CAA type certification in 1982. Units were sold in Europe and USA from 1982 to 1984.

In 1987 the company expanded the scope of operations to include sourcing and type approval of communications products for several multinational organisations, including Uniden Japan, Maxon Korea, Radio Shack, Bendix King, Midland International (USA) as well as other Australian organisations, such as Exicom Australia, Santronics Agencies, and Access Communications.

AV-COMM P/L achieved the first type approval certification in Australia of an AMPS Cellular mobile telephone, and was responsible for gaining over 80 type approval certificates for numerous radio communication products, from 1987 to 1990.

In 1990 the company introduced the first domestic K band satellite receiving system, utilising the Aussat A series satellites. This was the result of steady research into the system feasability since 1981.

Since that time a number of C band satellites have commenced operations, causing the emergence of the present market for satellite products. AV-COMM now specialises almost exclusively in the importation and supply of satellite receiving equipment.

The company has over 45 vendors in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, USA, UK, South Africa and Sweden. Some items are also made in Australia.

To cater for the satellite receiving equipment market, the company produced its first equipment catalogue in 1994 which was distributed to 30,000 high profile managers in the electronics and communications industry.

The company has a policy of dealing directly with manufacturers on an exclusive basis, providing the best possible technical support for customers, and the best possible sales representation for vendors.

Since 1994 the company has produced four equipment catalogues, with an ever increasing range of products. Our present market share includes end users, hotels, schools, universities, Government departments, terrestrial broadcasters, satellite and Pay TV broadcasters, embassies, consulates, defence organisations, etc.

To serve our customers, we operate a modern showroom where all products can be demonstrated. We can demonstrate reception of all satellites from 76.5 to 180 degrees east longitude.

Our Internet web site commenced operations in 1996, and has resulted in a huge increase in export business. We export products to New Zealand, New Guinea, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Japan and even the USA.

In 2008 we releauched our website with a cleaner more integrated site.

We are also channeling our expertise into the new magazine Satellite Pacific News. It includes access to an online business directory and boundless hints and tips for the professional and enthusiast alike. It will also keep you up to date with the latest satellite launches and other great features. Its available in our shop via subscription. This is an exciting new venture and we are looking forward to the challenge.

We are well recognised as a product innovator, as well as one of the few remaining founders of the satellite TV business in Australia. We are the satellite specialists.
