Norfolk Telecom C Band Earth Station & Primary Internet Gateway Project

The Av-Comm field engineering team was deployed to Norfolk Island to build a new high-throughput C Band satellite ground station for Norfolk Telecom on behalf of Spark New Zealand. The Av-Comm’s field engineering team  built a Suman 4.5m C Band Tx/Rx antenna system fitted with redundant Terrasat C Band BUC, and a redundancy LNB system.

The new C Band ground station will be used as the primary internet gateway for Norfolk Island, superseding the Island’s soon to be decommissioned O3B (SES) ground station.

The Av-Comm field engineering team worked in conjunction with local contractors to conduct the civil works including the antenna foundation works and the InterFacility Link (IFL) cabling. With the assistance of local Norfolk Telecom engineers, Av-Comm built the Suman 4.5m antenna system and successfully conducted the commissioning tests with the satellite operator Intelsat.

Despite environmental challenges and inclement weather, the Av-Comm field engineering team completed the works on schedule, ready for integration into the Norfolk Telecom network as the primary internet gateway.

Av-Comm would like to thank our customer Spark New Zealand for the opportunity to work with them on this exciting project. Av-Comm would also like to thank Norfolk Telecom, and the Norfolk Island-based contractors who assisted Av-Comm to build the satellite ground station.
